Course Overview

A 12 month Masters degree to develop creative and intellectual skills for the emerging landscape in interactive and networked media. Graduate from the UK’s only Centre for Excellence in Media Practice and a recognised Skillset Screen and Media Academy.

A Collaborative Media Environment

The Media School’s postgraduate courses are designed around a collaborative ethos that helps students integrate a range of key creative and intellectual skills required in the knowledge-based economy. The MA Interactive Media course is shaped by the need for professional practitioners in the creative and cultural industries with a higher level of research and creative skills in the area of interactive and networked media.

Interactive Media covers a broad range of interests and skills and requires an ability to work both individually and also within team-based environments. A unique learning opportunity to include collaboration with writers, producers, editors, and directors provides an exciting challenge for interactive media students who can develop central roles for the creation of innovative and creative research and practice. The flexible nature of the course will also enable you to identify and direct your own learning needs towards your own desired balance between research and production.

The Media School in Bournemouth University has strong links with industry, through our track record of graduate employment and Skillset accreditation. HEFCE (The Higher Education Funding Council for England) has designated us as the only Centre for Excellence in Media Practice in England. This has provided us with more linkages and working relationships with institutions such as the BBC. A range of visiting speakers will regularly feature in the course, providing a critical cutting edge to the work you would be producing.

Students are expected to bring laptops with appropriate interactive media software. In addition, students will also have access to an Interactive Media Production Studio comprising fourteen Mac-based workstations, all with the latest authoring software installed (typically to include Photoshop, Flash, Dreamweaver, Cinema 4D, Unity, Soundtrack, and Final Cut Pro). The studio also has digital data projection facilities, as well as printing and wireless network connectivity, and a large tabled area for discussions and collaborative meetings.
